IPS (Independent Public School) Council recommendations were formed in response to parent, staff, student and the broader communities' feedback.
The IPS Council Recommendation 1: That the school continue the development of the Care Class program.
Our Response/Actions: We will continue to engage experts in the Positive Psychology field including Dr Justin Coulson, Psychologist Sarah Rallston and the Positive Education Institute to continue to build our skills to strengthen the House Care Group program and our House Culture. This term will see the introduction of our House Point System. This system aims to encourage collective contribution and active participation to our House Culture. Additionally, we have committed to an annual student feedback survey that provides benchmarks for engagement and strengthening of our Care Class program.
Additionally, we are reviewing our timetable with the intent of allocating time to House assemblies and whole school assembly (fortnightly) to increase the allocation of House Care Group time each week and maximise student learning time.
All House Care Group teachers will continue to be provided with extensive training to understand the 'check and connect' philosophy that underpins the program. A focus on observation and feedback during House Care Group time will be a focus of our leadership team to ensure that all staff continue to be supported and developed.
Extension of our student leadership program in 2020 to engage all student leaders including year 12 students in a deep understanding of the House Care Group program and the role that they play will foster greater mentoring and peer support amongst our community.
