Aim

The Sting Netball Academy at Shailer Park State High School provides talented and dedicated students with the opportunity to develop their netball performance while maintaining a strong focus on their academic studies. The program is designed to support student-athletes who are committed to improving their skills, game understanding, and overall athletic development.

Overview

The Sting Netball Academy offers students a structured training environment that focuses on developing advanced netball skills, tactical awareness, and effective teamwork. The program aims to support players in progressing through school and club netball pathways while building confidence, leadership, and resilience both on and off the court.

Training sessions emphasise core technical development such as passing accuracy, movement, defensive pressure, and shooting consistency. Players also work on game strategy, positional awareness, and decision-making during match situations.

Students have opportunities to participate in additional Strength and Conditioning sessions designed to enhance agility, speed, strength, and injury prevention. These sessions support overall athletic performance and help players compete at higher levels of the sport.

The Academy is coordinated by Sarah Morris, who works closely with school staff and coaches to ensure students receive high-quality support and guidance throughout the program.

As part of the Academy’s holistic approach, students are also introduced to areas such as athlete wellbeing, recovery strategies, and goal setting. The program encourages students to develop positive habits that support both sporting and academic success.

Regular Academy meetings are conducted to review student progress, provide mentoring and feedback, and ensure all participants are meeting the expectations of the student-athlete model.
