Sting Volleyball Academy

Aim

The Sting Volleyball Academy develops student athletes while building key character strengths such as Leadership, Teamwork, Persistence, and Gratitude. The program supports students to represent Shailer Park State High School in high-level competitions, with pathways into District, Regional, State, and National Representative teams, and exposes students to talent identification opportunities through the Queensland Academy of Sport and Volleyball Queensland. The overall focus of the Sting Volleyball Academy is to develop young athletes who are committed to reaching their potential both in the classroom and on the court. The academy is led by Head Coach Nate Wilkins, who brings extensive experience and expertise to guide students to perform at their best.

Overview

The academy is designed for students who:

  • Have a strong desire to learn and improve

  • Are determined and willing to work hard

  • Are passionate about playing, coaching, and training in Volleyball at a high level

  • Have ambitious goals and a growth mindset

  • Demonstrate excellent classroom behaviour and effort

Students benefit from an environment that encourages high performance, combining on-court skills with classroom learning, including critical thinking, creative problem solving, and collaboration.

Opportunities

Students in the Sting Volleyball Academy have access to:

  • Multiple training sessions per week

  • Participation in regional, state-wide, and national school competitions

  • Exposure to talent identification for state and national representative teams

  • Strength and conditioning programs

  • Leadership development opportunities

  • Integration of Volleyball into junior curriculum programs

Entry Conditions

To join the Sting Volleyball Academy, students must:

  • Have previous high-level Volleyball experience

  • Show a genuine passion for the sport

  • Be motivated to develop as a student-athlete, working collaboratively and independently, challenging themselves, and reflecting on their learning

Academy Levy

Students are required to pay a levy to cover:

  • Team Volleyball kit

  • Staffing costs

  • Consumables (training balls, match balls, equipment, laundry)
